Ex-Orlando Pirates striker crowned champion in Belgium

A former Orlando Pirates striker has officially become a champion in Europe following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season this weekend.

Lyle Foster won the Belgian First Division championship with KVC Westerlo, his first major trophy since moving to Belgium.

Foster left Pirates for French Ligue 1 side Monaco in 2019, but he has had to play for different clubs across Europe since then.

He’s currently at Westerlo on loan from Portuguese outfit Vitoria de Guimaraes – and he’s likely to go back there now that the season is over.

With Westerlo winning the Belgian First Division title, this also means a return to the Pro League, where they will get to play against the likes of Anderlecht and Club Brugge.

Foster featured in 23 of the 28 league games played by Westerlo this season – and he did the most for the club in what wasn’t an easy campaign for him.

The 21-year-old former Bucs man directly contributed nine goals for Westerlo – scoring four times and registering five assists for the club.

Given how much he enjoyed himself at Westerlo, Foster would hope for a longer stay in Belgium and get to taste topflight football next season.
