EThekwini Municipality: Major water supply interruption on Thursday

Several areas of the north, central, south, and inner west regions in the eThekwini Municipality will be without water on Thursday, 31 March.

The interruption is reportedly due to a valve failure in the vicinity of the Durban Heights Treatment Works of uMgeni Water.

EThekwini Municipality said due to a valve failure, the uMgeni Water Main Reservoir has been isolated to undertake repairs.

The repairs are said to be underway. However, this will affect supply of water in several areas in eThekwini.

“The duration of the repairs is 12 hours and is expected to be completed at 12am, on 30 March 2022.

“There will be no incoming flow into eThekwini Municipality’s storage reservoirs and as a result, there will be water outages from midnight, 30 March until midnight, 31 March.”

On Tuesday, 29 March, the municipality had also announced  an 11-hour planned water supply shutdown that will affect most areas in the Central Business District (CBD).

The shutdown was reportedly due to a tie-in of the 800mm diameter steel pipe being laid into the existing 750mm steel pipe located at the corner of Anton Lembede Street and Alexandra Street.

As a result, the Montille Reservoir supplying to the CBD was affected.
