Oby Ezekwesili Commemorates #EndSARS Protests’ 3rd Anniversary

Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has marked the third anniversary of the #EndSARS protests by declaring, “It’s never over until it’s over,” as Nigerian youth remember the significant movement.

The #EndSARS Movement

In October 2020, the Nigerian public rose in protest against police brutality, extrajudicial killings, extortion, and abuse of power, particularly by the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Protests and SARS Disbandment

The initial peaceful protests led to the federal government of Nigeria disbanding SARS in response to public outcry.

However, the protests came to a halt on October 20 when Nigerian Army officers opened fire on protesters, resulting in the deaths and injuries of numerous demonstrators.

Oby Ezekwesili’s Call for Remembrance

In a recent post, Oby Ezekwesili called for the remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2020 while advocating for a well-governed country.

Quoting Franz Fanon and the Mission of Each Generation

She referenced the date 20-10-20, marking it as a historic day when the youth of Nigeria collectively began to embody the profound words of Franz Fanon, emphasizing that each generation must discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it.

Honoring Heroes and Advocating for a Well-Governed Country

On the third memorial of the #EndSARS protests, Ezekwesili urged people not to forget the heroic individuals who were killed, injured, and tortured for standing up and demanding a well-governed nation that upholds their constitutional rights.

She also praised those who have continued the struggle to fulfill their mission, emphasizing that it’s never over until it’s over.

Oby Ezekwesili’s message underscores the enduring impact of the #EndSARS movement and the continued pursuit of a just and well-governed Nigeria.
