Emmanuel Macron Announces Bill Allowing ‘Assisted Dying’ Under ‘Strict Conditions’ to Be Presented to Council of Ministers in April

French President Emmanuel Macron has revealed plans to introduce legislation permitting ‘assisted dying’ under stringent conditions, set to be submitted to the Council of Ministers next month.

“New Legislation to Grant Adults with ‘Incurable Illness’ Right to ‘Assisted Dying'”

The proposed bill, announced by Macron in interviews with French newspapers Libération and La Croix, outlines provisions for adults afflicted with terminal conditions to request assistance in ending their lives.

“Prescription of Lethal Substance for Self-Administration or Assisted Consumption”

Under the proposed law, individuals meeting the criteria for ‘assisted dying’ will have access to a prescribed lethal substance, which they may choose to administer independently or with the aid of another person if necessary.
