Emma Raducanu advanced to the third round of Wimbledon after a commanding straight-sets victory over Elise Mertens on Wednesday.
Raducanu, who entered the tournament with a wildcard, showcased her impressive form by defeating the Belgian star 6-1, 6-2.
The British tennis sensation had already made headlines by overcoming lucky loser Renata Zarazua in her first match on Monday.
Despite admitting that her initial performance was not her best, she came out strong against Mertens, breaking her opponent twice in the first set to take a 5-0 lead before closing it out at 6-1.
In the second set, Raducanu continued her dominance, breaking Mertens twice more to establish a 5-1 lead.
Although Mertens managed to take one game back, Raducanu quickly wrapped up the match, earning her spot in the next round.
Reflecting on her performance, Raducanu shared, “I felt I played some really great tennis today.”
The 21-year-old will face either ninth seed Maria Sakkari or Dutch player Arantxa Rus in the third round.

“It makes me feel unbelievable being here,” she said, basking in the support of her home crowd.

“The most important thing is focusing on myself.
I did that really well today,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of staying in her own zone.
