Emilia Clarke, renowned for her roles in “Game of Thrones,” and her mother, Jenny, were appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for their remarkable efforts in establishing the SameYou charity.
This initiative stemmed from Emilia’s personal experience with two brain haemorrhages, driving them to create a platform aiding brain injury recovery.
A Journey Through Adversity
The genesis of their philanthropic endeavor traces back to 2011 when Emilia encountered her first brain bleed, followed by another in 2013 necessitating surgery.
Despite the rarity of survival without significant aftermath, Emilia emerged largely unscathed, inspiring her and Jenny to form SameYou.
Their goal was to broaden access to neuro-rehabilitation for individuals affected by strokes or brain injuries.
Overcoming Stigma and Embracing Resilience
Emilia’s openness about her struggles, including fears of professional repercussions and the societal stigma surrounding health crises, stands as a testament to her resilience.
