A quiet neighborhood in Edmond, Oklahoma, was rocked by tragedy this week when a devoted mother’s life ended in the most shocking way imaginable.
Spring Weems, 49, a mother-of-five, was found dead in a trash can outside her $340,000 home, allegedly at the hands of her adopted 16-year-old son.
What makes the story even more heart-wrenching is that Jordan Cole Weems, who faces first-degree murder charges, had previously expressed love and admiration for his mother.
Friends, family, and a GoFundMe page have painted a portrait of Spring as a fiercely loving parent who devoted her life to her children.
A Mother’s Devotion on Display
Spring’s life was filled with acts of care and dedication.
According to a fundraiser set up for her family, everything she did for her children “was rooted in love.”
She was known for never missing a wrestling match for her sons or a volleyball game for her daughter.
Her adult daughter had recently welcomed a baby, making Spring a grandmother for the first time.
Social media and personal mementos reveal the closeness she shared with Jordan.
A keyring with a handwritten note from Jordan, dated Mother’s Day 2021, reads: “Dear mom, I love you because you are smart, kind, and very loving.
That’s what I love about you. Your son, Jordan Weems.”
Signs of Struggle
Despite these tender moments, Jordan reportedly struggled with severe mental illness.
Friends of the family, through the fundraiser, shared that Spring was aware of his challenges and actively sought professional help for him.
Prosecutors also confirmed that Jordan had previously been hospitalized for suicidal ideation and had recently been committed to a psychiatric facility in the weeks leading up to the tragedy.
The Day of the Tragedy
The events leading to Spring’s death began when her biological son, AW, returned home after a few days with friends and noticed she was missing.
Jordan falsely claimed that she was helping her oldest daughter with her newborn.
By Wednesday, concern grew when Spring still hadn’t returned, her car was in the driveway, and her bedroom door remained locked.
Investigators later learned that Jordan had a history of threatening to harm his mother, according to his adopted brother, TW.
He had also been disciplined in ways that simulated prison life, including wearing a jumpsuit and eating restricted meals.
The Shocking Confession
Eventually, TW revealed to investigators that Jordan had killed Spring and disposed of her body in a trash can.
Jordan later admitted to police that he struck his mother repeatedly with a hammer he took from the garage and used his fists until she stopped moving.
He then placed her body in a trash bin and rolled it to the curb.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Jordan faces first-degree murder charges, along with desecration of a human corpse and unauthorized removal of a dead body.
While the death penalty is off the table due to his age, he could face life in prison without parole.
Oklahoma law treats those aged 15 to 17 charged with first-degree murder as adults.
Prosecutors emphasized that the act was premeditated, highlighting that Jordan retrieved a hammer, waited for his mother, and took steps to cover up the crime.
Court documents indicate his detention will be reviewed twice before his scheduled appearance in front of a judge in April.
Remembering Spring Weems
Beyond the headlines and legal proceedings, the focus remains on Spring’s legacy as a loving and devoted mother.
She was a devout Christian, a constant presence in her children’s lives, and widely respected in her community for her compassion and generosity.
Friends and neighbors remember her as someone who truly lived for her family, leaving a void that will be impossible to fill.
