Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, has confirmed that Anthony Joshua will have two bouts in 2025.
Joshua, who has been one of the most talked-about names in boxing, is ready to step back into the ring after a year filled with ups and downs.
Fans have been eager to know what’s next for the 35-year-old, and Hearn has offered some clarity.
Joshua’s Recent Defeat and What’s Next
Joshua’s last fight took place in September against rising star Daniel Dubois, where Joshua hoped to become a three-time world heavyweight champion.
The bout ended with a surprising turn of events as Dubois handed Joshua his fourth career defeat, winning by a fifth-round stoppage and successfully defending his IBF title.
Prior to this fight, Joshua had been on a four-fight win streak, including a dominant second-round knockout of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in March.
After his loss to Dubois, Joshua had been expected to rematch him early in 2025, but now the focus has shifted to recovery as AJ plans his return later in the year.
Joshua’s Return Timeline
Eddie Hearn shared that Joshua’s return to the ring is expected to happen sometime in the summer or early fall of 2025.
“He’s not in full training yet, but he’ll probably be ready to start training again in January,” Hearn told iFL TV.
As for the specific timing of his return, Hearn mentioned a likely fight window in May or June.
Possible Showdown with Tyson Fury in 2025
Hearn also touched on the possibility of a long-awaited fight between Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Following Fury’s second loss to Oleksandr Usyk earlier this month, the idea of an all-British heavyweight showdown has gained momentum.
While Hearn expressed excitement over the prospect of this fight, he emphasized that they wouldn’t rush into any decisions.
“We’re not in a terrible rush,” Hearn stated. “AJ will fight twice in 2025—once in the summer and once in the winter.”
However, he acknowledged that the fight with Fury might not happen immediately.
“If we can’t make the Dubois fight and if Fury doesn’t want to fight, we’ll have to decide whether to fight someone else or wait for those matchups.”
Focus on Dubois or Fury
Hearn clarified that for Joshua, the priority will be either facing Daniel Dubois or Tyson Fury in the near future.
He praised Joshua for already having a stellar career, noting that a victory over Fury would solidify his legacy.
“If he gets Fury on his resume, he’s boxed virtually everybody of his era,” Hearn said.
As the new year approaches, fans are eagerly awaiting Joshua’s return, hoping for a thrilling 2025.
