The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Ebonyi State South-East Nigeria has urged all corps members ending their orientation course today to prioritize the need of national unity, peace and prosperity of Nigeria as they proceed on their one year service to the country.
The NYSC Director- General, Professor Shuaibu Ibrahim, represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs Mercy Bamai Dawuda stated this in her address during the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 Orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, old MacGregor college Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The State Coordinator urged corps members to desist using social media as a tool of violence but rather as a platform to promote peace and unity.
“I urge you to avoid using social media for ethnic jingoism, rumor peddling and promotion of hatred, instead your activities online should be targeted at self improvement and as well as promotion of unity, peace and prosperity of our dear country.
“Also avoid being speculative on the issues affecting NYSC, instead visit our website, social media platforms and other channels for clarification” Bamai said.
NYSC skill acquisition
Mrs Bamai said she was overwhelmed with joy on the level of participation of corps members in the NYSC skill acquisition and vocational training during the orientation course.
She urged the corps members to build on the skills acquired in the Camp as it will go a long way in empowering them for self employment.
According to her NYSC is liaising with financial institutions and other stakeholders with the view of providing start-up loans to enable Corps members actualize their business dreams.
Mrs Bamai urged the newly posted corps members to eschew unauthorized journey and also obey all COVID-19 protocols.
She urged all NYSC employers not to reject any corps member posted to them.
Consequently, she thanked Federal, State and Local Governments for their unwavering supports to NYSC as well as security agencies who ensured peace and orderliness during the orientation.
