Royal AM, the football club owned by Durban socialite Shauwn Mkhize, is stuck in a challenging position as they refuse to pay a R12 million settlement to striker Samir Nurkovic.

This ongoing dispute means they’re heading into another transfer window unable to register new players.

Transfer Ban Extended

The situation has been complicated by a delayed appeal against a FIFA-imposed transfer ban.

As it stands, coach John Maduka will need to rely on his current squad without the benefit of new signings.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has reported that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will deliver a verdict on the appeal next month.

The ruling, scheduled for October 11, will determine if the transfer ban will be lifted or upheld.

Dispute and Delay

Royal AM’s attempt to overturn the ban, filed with the Swiss-based tribunal, has met with resistance.

Despite their claims, both Nurkovic and defender Ricardo Nascimento are still awaiting payments, resulting in the ongoing transfer embargo.

Initially, there was an expectation that CAS might resolve the issue by September 15, but this prediction has been proven inaccurate.

Impact on the Club

Davor Lazic, an expert on the matter, had suggested that the dispute could extend for an additional year.

This forecast was confirmed when CAS notified all parties that the decision would be postponed until October 11—after the PSL transfer window had closed.

Consequently, even though several players have left Royal AM, Maduka will be unable to bolster his squad with new talent.

The FIFA suspension also affects the club’s junior team, causing disruptions in their reserve league fixtures.

As per Sunday World, Royal AM has settled its debt to Ricardo Nascimento, but the payment to Nurkovic remains pending, with the outcome of the arbitration proceedings still awaited.

Looking Ahead

As the club awaits the arbitration ruling, the future of Royal AM’s squad development and their ability to compete effectively remains uncertain.

Fans and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the situation unfolds and whether the club will be able to navigate these turbulent waters.
