…By Alan Peterson for TDPel Media. A 69-year-old driver had his car seized by the Derbyshire Road Policing Unit after it was discovered that he had been driving without a licence for over 50 years.
The police were shocked when they pulled the man over and he revealed that he had been driving illegally since the age of 19.
The driver had tricked insurance companies for over five decades by claiming that he had a licence.
The Derbyshire RPU stopped and seized the car before reporting the man to the police for several offences.
The driver had systematically provided details to insurance companies indicating that he had a licence, but his long reign came to an abrupt end once the police found out.
The police also noted that the flaw in his plan was his own bragging about his unlicensed driving.
In a tweet, a spokesperson for the Derbyshire RPU said, “His long reign came to an abrupt end once we found out.
Vehicle seized and driver reported for numerous offences.”
Driving without a licence is a serious offence in the UK and can result in hefty fines and even imprisonment.
It is unclear why the driver had not obtained a licence for so many years, but it is a reminder of the importance of having a valid licence and complying with driving regulations.
The incident also highlights the need for insurance companies to verify their customers’ driving licences to prevent similar cases of fraud in the future.
