South African DJ and businesswoman, DJ Zinhle, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute following the passing of legendary singer Winnie Khumalo on January 7.
Known for her timeless music, Winnie’s death has deeply affected the country, and DJ Zinhle’s words offered comfort and strength to those grieving.
Paying Tribute to Winnie’s Legacy
DJ Zinhle shared an emotional message on Instagram, promising to honor the bond that Winnie had with her daughter, Rethabile.
The promise was simple yet powerful—ensuring Rethabile receives all the love and care she deserves.
Zinhle reflected on how Winnie’s legacy of love would continue through her daughter.
“Though you are no longer with us, your love and presence remain in our hearts.
We promise to honor the bond you shared with your precious daughter @rethabile_rsa by surrounding her with all the love, care, and support she deserves,” DJ Zinhle wrote.
She added, “Your legacy of love will live on through her, and we will do everything in our power to make sure she is safe, happy, and deeply loved.
Rest peacefully, knowing that she will never walk this journey alone.”
The Loss of Winnie Khumalo
Winnie Khumalo, known for her hit song Live My Life, passed away on January 7 after a brief illness.
Her passing occurred while she was being driven to the hospital, and despite efforts to get her medical attention, she was tragically declared dead upon arrival.
In an emotional statement to SABC, Winnie’s sister, Tshepi Akeepile, shared the heartbreaking details. “She was really not well.
Unfortunately, on their drive to the hospital, that’s when she passed away.
When they arrived at the hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival,” Tshepi said.
Winnie leaves behind her son, Ntando Khumalo, her daughter Rethabile, three grandchildren, and her close family, including three sisters and her mother.
A Public Mistake and Apology
In the aftermath of the news, ENCA journalist Shahan Ramkissoon mistakenly referred to Winnie Khumalo as Kelly Khumalo during his report.
Ramkissoon has since apologized for the mix-up, but Kelly Khumalo has not yet accepted the apology, adding another layer of tension to the news cycle.
