For years, fans of the South African game show Friends Like These have been wondering about one big mystery — did the winning team really go on that promised group holiday?
The show, which pitted teams of friends against each other in fun challenges, ended with the winning side having to answer questions about each other for a chance to win a getaway.
But did those trips actually happen? DJ Sbu, the show’s longtime host, recently cleared the air.
DJ Sbu Confirms the Prize Trips Were Real, Just Different from Today’s Social Media Age
During a chat with radio 702 presenter Clement Manyathela, DJ Sbu laughed off the skepticism some fans have expressed.
“Yes, they did,” he said plainly about the cruise trips.
He explained that because this all happened before the days of social media, people sometimes doubted the prizes.
“A lot of people thought we were fooling them,” he joked in his native language.
The trips weren’t given out every weekend but were scheduled once for all the winners at the end of a season, usually during the festive season to work around everyone’s busy lives.
DJ Sbu recalled having a great time hosting and being part of those experiences.
What Happened to DJ Sbu and ‘Friends Like These’?
Sbusiso Leope — better known as DJ Sbu — eventually stepped away from hosting Friends Like These to focus on his growing business ventures and to launch his own podcast.
Although the show had a successful run under his stewardship, he chose to move on to new challenges.
