DUBAI, 11th February, 2022 – Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is the Official Sustainability Partner of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, which runs until 13th February 2022.

“As part of our social responsibility, we partner with public and private organisations that support cultural and knowledge activities and instil reading as a way of life.

This achieves the wise leadership’s vision to promote reading and make it a lifestyle and a daily habit to build an educated society capable of leading the sustainable development process.

This also promotes a knowledge-based economy and consolidates the UAE’s position as a capital for content, culture, and knowledge,” Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said.

Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Government Communications at DEWA, moderated a panel discussion during the festival.

The panel discussion featured Hana Al Hashimi and Mona Ali Khalil, where they reviewed their book “The Future of Diplomacy After COVID-19”.

The book covers a wide range of issues related to sustainable development, security, digital collaboration, and the rule of law.

It presents a positive outlook on the policies and lessons learned from the pandemic in the future.

As part of the partnership between DEWA and the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, DEWA hosted two sessions with author Rowan Hooper, a doctor of evolutionary biology and senior editor at New Scientist magazine.

Hooper discussed his book “How to Spend a Trillion Dollars,” highlighting global issues that can be solved using a trillion dollars, such as diseases and climate change.

The first session was at DEWA’s Innovation Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and the second at DEWA’s Campus for Occupational and Academic Development.

The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, held annually in Dubai, is one of the world’s leading international literary festivals.

It is also the Arab World’s largest written and spoken word celebration.

The event promotes books, reading and the richness of words in all their forms.
