Blaze Engulfs Former Social Club

On Saturday, July 22, a massive fire broke out at the disused Gordon Lennox Constitutional Club in the Nixonville area of Merthyr Vale, completely destroying the building.

Dozens of firefighters from Merthyr, Treharris, Pontypridd, and Cardiff Central responded to the incident, battling the blaze to bring it under control.

Fire Service’s Response and Smoke Concerns

The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the scene at approximately 6.22 am on Saturday morning.

Due to the heavy smoke emanating from the building, nearby residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed as a precautionary measure.

Drug Investigation Preceding the Fire

Just two days before the fire, on Thursday, July 20, the South Wales Police executed a drug warrant at the same premises.

During the operation, authorities discovered over 700 cannabis plants on the property.

As a result, two individuals, Judjan Kashari (23) and Andi Nako (31), were arrested at the scene and charged with cannabis production. Both individuals have been remanded in custody.

Response from Authorities

In the aftermath of the fire, a spokesperson for the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service issued a statement, recounting the efforts of multiple crews from across the region who worked alongside emergency service colleagues to combat the blaze.

Regrettably, the two-story property was entirely destroyed by the fire. A stop message was received at approximately 4.16 pm on Saturday, with a reinspection of the property planned for safety measures.

Continuing Investigation

The South Wales Police are actively investigating the cause of the fire while also dealing with the aftermath of the drug warrant operation.

With both incidents occurring in close proximity, authorities are likely to thoroughly examine any potential connections or underlying circumstances.

The devastating fire at the former social club in Merthyr Vale, coupled with the recent drug-related discovery at the same premises, has sparked concern and garnered the attention of local authorities.

As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the collaboration between fire and police services will play a crucial role in determining the events leading up to the incident.

The community remains vigilant as they await updates on the ongoing investigations.
