Deputy Speaker Dr Benjamin Kalu calls on Abia State communities to support President Tinubu’s 2027 bid to secure stronger bargaining power for the Igbo

The conversation about Nigeria’s political future is heating up, and Dr. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, is calling on the South-East to play a strategic role.

He emphasizes that supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 could significantly boost the bargaining power of the Igbo within Nigeria’s political landscape.

Representing Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, Kalu has been actively visiting communities across Abia North, Central, and South senatorial zones.

His mission: to consolidate the structures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in preparation for the upcoming general elections.

Votes as a Political Investment

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, Kalu highlighted the importance of viewing votes as strategic tools rather than sentimental gestures.

According to him, political influence and future opportunities are won through calculated alliances, not emotions.

“If you carry your vote and dump it where it does not count towards success, you have wasted your opportunity to go to the negotiation table,” he remarked.

“What you play politics with is numbers, not sentiment. The vote we have in our hands is the currency for investment.”

By supporting the current administration, Kalu argues, the South-East can secure greater trust, inclusion, and leverage in future political negotiations, paving the way for stronger representation.

Aligning with the Ruling Party

Kalu urged Igbo leaders and voters to focus on strategic outcomes over emotional choices.

He stressed that investing in President Tinubu’s re-election today could yield meaningful influence in tomorrow’s political landscape.

“President Bola Tinubu is where we should invest our votes, and it will count. That is the political reality today,” he said.

Echoing the President’s New Year call, Kalu also emphasized unity and inclusiveness across party lines.

He believes that internal cohesion is essential not only for party strength but for national stability.

“Leaders at all levels must reach out to one another, put aside divisive tendencies and work collectively to build a stronger, more cohesive party and nation,” he added.

Engaging Party Elders and Stakeholders

During his tour, Kalu met with notable figures including former Abia State Governor and ex-Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator John Nwannunu, and APC chieftain Sir Mac Wabara.

These discussions focused on party unity, grassroots mobilization, and sustained collaboration among key stakeholders.

He also shared his two-year legislative scorecard, inviting scrutiny from elder statesmen.

“I believe leadership must be subjected to scrutiny. I asked them to assess what I have done so far so I can do better,” Kalu explained.

Building Momentum for 2027

Kalu emphasized that the era of settling for only a quarter of the presidential votes in Abia State is over.

With renewed party unity, growing grassroots support, and strengthened political structures, he expressed confidence that APC is poised to deliver an outright victory for President Tinubu in 2027.

The elder statesmen, in turn, praised Kalu’s legislative record, highlighting his interventions in the National Assembly as both impactful and people-focused.

Their endorsement reinforces the message that strategic planning and collaboration are key to the South-East’s political advancement.
