Death of Elderly Dog Walker in Leicester Sparks Ongoing Murder Investigation as Four of Five Youths Arrested are Released Without Charges

Leicestershire Police have revealed that four of the five young people arrested in connection with the tragic death of an elderly dog walker have been released without charge.

Bhim Sen Kohli, an 80-year-old man, was seriously assaulted while walking his dog in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, Leicester, around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Sadly, he passed away in the hospital later that night.

Arrests and Investigation

Initially, five children—two 14-year-olds and three 12-year-olds—were taken into custody on suspicion of murder.

However, as of today, only the 14-year-old boy remains detained.

Police are still working to piece together the full circumstances of the attack and are urging anyone who was in the area between 6:00 and 6:45 p.m. to come forward.

They are also appealing for witnesses to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Details of the Assault

A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr. Kohli died from a neck injury, with further tests pending.

Detective Inspector Emma Matts expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing its impact on both Mr. Kohli’s family and the broader community.

The police are continuing to support the family through their liaison officers and are maintaining a visible presence in the area to reassure local residents.

Community Reactions

Residents have reported previous issues with gangs of youths causing disturbances and harassment in the area.

Neighbors mentioned that they had seen these youths throwing stones and climbing on roofs, and there had been multiple calls to the police about their behavior.

One resident noted that the police had been contacted several times over the last few months regarding the behavior of these youths.

The Impact on the Local Community

Frank Owen, a local resident, described recent problems with the same group of kids causing trouble late at night.

David Donahue, a visitor from Pittsburgh, mentioned witnessing a group of youngsters behaving disruptively earlier in the day.

Several residents indicated that Mr. Kohli had been previously harassed and that the community is deeply shaken by the recent events.

Ongoing Investigation

The police have reported the incident to the police watchdog due to prior contact with the victim.

The investigation is ongoing, and officers are asking anyone with information, including digital evidence or CCTV footage, to come forward.

The scene preservation at Franklin Park has been lifted, but a police presence remains as they continue to gather information and provide support to the community.
