Daniel Jones, the 27-year-old quarterback, might be heading to the Pittsburgh Steelers as he searches for a fresh start.
After a tumultuous run with the New York Giants, Jones is reportedly being eyed by the Steelers, who are in need of a new signal caller.
A Difficult Departure from the Giants
Jones’ time with the Giants took a turn for the worse during the past season.
After struggling through two disappointing campaigns, he made the decision to leave midway through the season.
He asked to be released and later joined the Minnesota Vikings for the remainder of the year.
However, he didn’t end up playing for the Vikings, who made it to the postseason but were eliminated in the first round.
Interest from the Steelers Organization
Now, it appears that Jones could be getting a second chance in Pittsburgh.
According to Andrew Fillipponi, a Pittsburgh sports radio host, there is interest in the former Giants QB within the Steelers organization.
Fillipponi shared on social media that the Steelers could view Jones as a good fit for their team.
“They could do a lot worse than Jones,” he wrote, adding that Jones is believed to be a good match for Arthur Smith’s offense and Mike Tomlin’s preference for a mobile quarterback.
Steelers in Search of a Quarterback
Currently, the Steelers have no quarterback on their roster, as both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are heading toward free agency.
While the team hopes to bring back one of them, rumors have already started to swirl.
It was recently reported that the New York Jets are also interested in Fields as they search for a new quarterback after parting ways with Aaron Rodgers.
Daniel Jones’ Fall from Grace in New York
Jones’ exit from the Giants came after a tough stretch in which he was benched and dropped to fourth on the depth chart.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll made the decision to move him down in favor of other quarterbacks, leading Jones to seek a release.
Giants owner John Mara commented on the departure, stating that it was a mutual decision that would be best for both Jones and the team.
Mara praised Jones for his professionalism and class throughout the process.
What’s Next for Jones?
After his release from the Giants, Jones is now on the hunt for a new opportunity, and Pittsburgh could be the place where he gets a chance to restart his career.
While still a young quarterback with potential, he has faced significant challenges in New York, and his future now rests on finding the right fit with a team willing to invest in him for the long run.
