Fox News host Dana Perino didn’t hold back when addressing Senator Elizabeth Warren’s recent criticism of Elon Musk’s involvement in government cost-cutting efforts.
During a protest at the Department of the Treasury, Warren had harsh words for Musk, accusing him of overstepping by working alongside the Department of Government Efficiency.
Warren’s Dramatic Speech at Treasury Department Protest
Warren was visibly animated as she spoke out against Musk’s access to the department’s financial transactions.
“No one elected Elon Musk to anything!” she exclaimed passionately.
“Not one Democrat in America voted for Elon Musk.
Not one Republican in America voted for Elon Musk. Not one Independent in America voted for Elon Musk.
Not one Libertarian in America voted for Elon Musk,” she continued, taking her message to a dramatic extreme.
“Damn not one vegetarian in America voted for Elon Musk. And yet Elon Musk is seizing the power that belongs to the American people.
We are here to fight back.”
Dana Perino Pushes Back on Warren’s Claims
On her Fox News show, The Five, Dana Perino pointed out the hypocrisy in Warren’s statement, highlighting how decisions made under the Biden administration were not necessarily supported by the American people either.
“Elizabeth Warren said Elon Musk wasn’t elected, well, neither were the people who were shoveling all the taxpayer dollars out to pay for electric vehicle credits,” Perino argued.
She also questioned the legality of certain actions taken by the Biden administration, such as the use of the Medicare Trust fund to support electric vehicle credits, and the controversial student loan forgiveness program, which was ruled illegal by the courts.
Republicans and Musk Back Government Efficiency Push
While Warren and other Democrats voiced their concerns, Republicans pushed back, noting that Elon Musk’s efforts were aligned with President Donald Trump’s campaign promise to increase government efficiency.
“They did however vote for Donald Trump, who promised repeatedly to have Elon Musk root out wasteful spending in our government,” Vice President JD Vance tweeted.
Musk and Trump had discussed the idea of a government efficiency commission earlier in 2024, with Musk expressing his willingness to help streamline government spending.
Musk, known for his work in various industries, stated, “I think it would be great to have a government efficiency commission that takes a look at these things and just ensures that the taxpayers’ hard-earned money is spent in a good way.”
Inspiration from Argentina’s President Javier Milei
Musk and Trump also cited the bold cost-cutting measures taken by Argentina’s President Javier Milei as a source of inspiration.
Musk commented on the dramatic economic improvements seen in Argentina following those cuts, saying, “Argentina overnight is experiencing a giant improvement in prosperity.”
Both Trump and Musk have expressed interest in replicating such measures in the U.S. to help reduce waste and improve economic conditions.
A Clash of Views on Efficiency and Government Spending
As the debate over Musk’s role in government continues, it’s clear that both sides of the political spectrum are deeply divided on how best to address government inefficiency and spending.
Whether Musk’s efforts will lead to meaningful change or will only fuel more partisan tension remains to be seen.
