Just when NFL fans thought the offseason might slow down, trade chatter is heating up — and this time, it’s the Dallas Cowboys stirring the pot.
Reports are swirling that the Cowboys are closing in on a deal to bring Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens to Texas.
Cowboys Eyeing Pickens in Trade Deal with Steelers
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dallas is working to finalize a trade that would send the 24-year-old wideout to the Cowboys.
In exchange, Pittsburgh would reportedly receive a third-round draft pick — and there may even be some pick swaps involved as well.
While the deal isn’t done just yet, it’s moving quickly toward completion.
A Star Receiver Joins an Already Stacked Offense
If the trade goes through, Pickens will join forces with CeeDee Lamb, one of the league’s top wide receivers, giving quarterback Dak Prescott another dynamic target.
On the flip side, the Steelers had planned to line Pickens up alongside DK Metcalf, who they acquired earlier this offseason.
Now, they might be forced to rethink their wide receiver depth chart entirely.
The Timing: One Year Left on Pickens’ Rookie Deal
One of the big questions now is how Dallas plans to manage its salary cap.
Pickens is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and if things go well, he’ll be looking for a big payday.
But with Lamb already commanding top dollar and Prescott’s contract eating up a massive chunk of the cap, Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones will need to get creative to make the numbers work.
Pickens’ Talent Comes with Some Baggage
There’s no doubt George Pickens has the skills. A national champion at Georgia, he’s known for making jaw-dropping catches that light up highlight reels.
But his journey hasn’t been without bumps.
Pickens has faced criticism over his on-field behavior, including two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during a 2024 win against the Bengals.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t hold back at the time, saying, “He’s just got to grow up, man.”
No Official Word Yet, But Talks Are Heating Up
As of now, neither the Cowboys nor the Steelers have confirmed the trade publicly.
Pickens’ agent, David Mulugheta, also hasn’t commented.
The deal isn’t official, but it’s gaining momentum — and it could be finalized soon.
