The Catholic Women’s Organization, C.W.O, Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, has presented an award of excellence to wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano, for her roles in governance and charity.
The Catholic women group, while presenting the award to the governor’s wife at Aguleri, said that Governor Willie Obiano’s eight years of stellar administration enjoyed strong support from his wife, who used her charity organization, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, to affect the lives of the indigent people.
Correspondent Daniel Ezeigwe reports that in her remarks before presenting the award to Dr Obiano, the C.W.O President of Basilica of the Most Trinity, Onitsha, Pharmacist Ify Onochie, described the governor’s wife as a great achiever who has set a remarkable pace in philanthropy and redefined the concept of charity.
She also noted that the governor’s wife’s consistent advocacy for the protection of vulnerable women and children makes her a viable voice in social response.
Accepting the award, Dr Obiano said that she felt elated to be reached out to by the women with immense love, explaining that she has always loved to identify with women because of the strong role they play in both societal development and governance.
The governor’s wife appealed to the women to give her successor, wife of the incoming governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo the same strong support that she has enjoyed from them, and help her achieve success in her own path.
She also allayed fears that her charity organization, CAFE, would close down at the expiration of her husband’s tenure, reaffirming that she would continue to carry out her humanitarian works even outside government.
A member of the group, Lady Rose Ekwenibe, in a vote of thanks, commended the governor’s wife for providing a solid pillar to good governance, assuring her that Anambra women are always behind her.
Anambra State Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue was at the event.
