With the rising cost of education putting increasing pressure on families, support initiatives like bursaries are becoming more than just helpful gestures—they’re lifelines.
That reality came into sharp focus in Cross River State as students from Ikom Local Government Area received a timely financial lift aimed at keeping their academic dreams on track.
Speaker Disburses ₦10 Million to Ikom Students
The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, has disbursed a total of ₦10 million as bursary support to 100 students from Ikom Local Government Area.
Each beneficiary received assistance under the scheme, which was designed to ease the financial strain many students and parents are currently facing.
Community Gathers for Presentation Ceremony
The bursary presentation took place on Sunday at Ayambem’s country home in the Nde community of Ikom LGA.
The event drew a large crowd, including students, parents, community leaders, and party stakeholders, all of whom turned out to witness what many described as a meaningful investment in education and the future of the area.
Bursary Scheme Framed as Support and Motivation
Speaking at the ceremony through his Chief of Staff, Anakan Ndoma, the Speaker explained that the bursary scheme was carefully planned to reduce the financial burden on students and their families.
He emphasized that beyond financial relief, the initiative was also meant to motivate students to strive for academic excellence.
According to him, the support reflects a clear intention to stand with students as they pursue their educational goals despite economic challenges.
A Call for Focus, Discipline, and Commitment
Ayambem also used the opportunity to challenge the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously.
He urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed, reminding them that the bursary was not just assistance for today but an investment in their future and the long-term development of Ikom Local Government Area.
Leaders Applaud the Speaker’s Commitment to Education
Chairman of the occasion, Asinya Ntan, praised the Speaker for his consistent support for human capital development.
He noted that the bursary initiative reflects a style of leadership that is responsive, people-oriented, and deeply concerned about the welfare of young people.
Students Describe the Support as Timely and Impactful
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Atep Godiva, President of the National Association of Ikom Students Worldwide, described the bursary as both timely and impactful.
He pointed out that with the rising cost of tuition and other educational expenses, the support would go a long way in helping students stay focused on their studies.
What’s Next?
As students head back to their campuses with renewed hope, many in the community are watching closely to see how this intervention translates into improved academic performance and long-term development.
The big question now is whether similar initiatives will be sustained or expanded to reach even more students in the future.
