The ‘Covid husbands,’ two Tory MPs, have joined the ranks of renegade Conservatives aiming to oust Boris Johnson from Number 10.
Jesse Norman, a former minister, wrote a scathing letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson this morning, accusing him of lacking “a sense of mission.”
John Penrose, the PM’s anti-corruption tsar, eventually joined him in the rebel ranks, telling Mr Johnson that his premiership was ‘finished.’
Because of the high-profile roles their wives played during the Coronavirus outbreak, the couple is known as the ‘Covid husbands.’
Kate Bingham, Mr Norman’s wife, chaired the Government’s vaccination taskforce, which handled the acquisition of millions of Covid vaccines.
Dido Harding, Mr Penrose’s wife, was the beleaguered head of the £37 billion NHS Test and Trace initiative.
MPs have slammed her involvement, claiming that the flagship program failed to fulfill “its main purpose” of reducing Covid infection levels.
Jeremy Hunt, the PM’s long-time opponent, immediately joined Mr Norman and Mr Penrose in their public campaign against Mr Johnson today.
When Tory MPs vote on Mr Johnson’s leadership tonight, the ex-health secretary announced he would be “voting for change.”
