Cotton underwear best for usage, says medical doctor

Dr Chioma Ofoekii, a medical practitioner, has advised that underwears made from pure cotton are the best for adults and younger persons.

Ofoekii gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, in Abuja.

According to her, nylon panties can hold heat, make them bind, unsanitary and uncomfortable in the warmer months.

According to her, cotton panties are very comfortable because they move effortlessly with the natural body movement,

“When it comes to underwear, cotton is the fabric of choice. This is because it is the most absorbent and breathable.

“Avoid materials that trap heat and moisture because they can create a favourable environment for bacteria and yeast to thrive.

“Using a cotton underwear will reduce the incidence of chaffing, itching and irritation of the skin, yeast infection, and urinary tract infections.

“Cotton underwear also ensures that the scrotum is kept in optimal temperature for sperm production,’’ she said.

Ofoekii said that in addition to fabric, other factors to be considered include hygiene and size.

She said for hygiene, there is a need for frequent change and good hygiene of the underwear.

“It is advised to change one’s underwear at least once a day,’’ she said.

Ofoekii said for the size, underwear should fit in, but should not be too tight.

“I did not mention nylon specifically because there are many other fabrics that are not breathable as well.

“Besides, many persons may not even be able to tell which material is nylon or not. (NAN)
