A devastating boat accident on the Connecticut River has resulted in one confirmed death, with two others still missing.

The incident occurred when a motorboat, carrying a group of people, crashed at high speed into a jetty near Harbor One Marine in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Details of the Accident

The boat, which was traveling fast, collided with an east-facing jetty, shattering into pieces and sending everyone aboard into the water.

The vessel was carrying nine people, including the three now missing men who were not wearing life jackets.

According to Joey Kellems from the US Coast Guard’s Long Island Sound sector, six people were rescued from the scene, while the Coast Guard continued their search throughout the night.

Current Status and Ongoing Search

During the search efforts, one of the missing men was found deceased, as confirmed by DEEP.

The conditions of the six survivors, including one man and five women aged 24 to 30, remain unknown after they were taken to the hospital.

Search and rescue teams, supported by both air and water units, are still at the scene.

Dive teams have joined the operation to locate the remaining missing individuals.

The Coast Guard has yet to disclose the specific cause of the crash but received the emergency call at 9 PM.

The crash has been classified as a mass casualty incident, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding it is ongoing.

Old Saybrook, located about 30 miles from New Haven, Connecticut, remains the focal point of this tragic event.
