As the resumption of the local soccerseason looms on the horizon, we take a closer look at some “clubless” players who could add value in the PSL if they were able to find a new home.
Hlompho Kekana
Reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns announced in early November that they had come to an amicable agreement to part ways with Kekana.
The veteran midfielder departed Chloorkop as the club’s most decorated captain having made more than 350 appearances across all competitions for the Brazilians. He has been linked with a host of different clubs since then.
Although Kekana is in his late 30s, he is still more than capable of playing top-flight football, and would surely also fulfil an important mentorship and leadership role at any club that picked up his services.
Siphiwe Tshabalala
Although the former Bafana Bafana legend is now 37-years-old and considered to be “past it” by some pundits, it’s been revealed that he has no intentions to retire just yet.
The veteran spent last season with AmaZulu, but battled for game time, and ultimately it was unsurprising to see him released from Benni McCarthy’s squad.
Tshabalala may have fallen off the radar to some degree, but there is no doubt that his experience and desire to continue playing at a top level could be of value to a club looking to add a rotational player option to their squad depth.
Thabo Rakhale
The former Orlando Pirates “dribbling wizard” is one of the players recently released by Sekhukhune United despite having only joined the club from Marumo Gallants in July last year.
Still widely regarded as one of the most skilful players to have feature in the PSL, Rakhale, 31, was widely linked with Kaizer Chiefs before he joined Sekhukhune
Nicknamed ‘Jomo’, Rakhale made just seven appearances for Babina Noko, but now that he has somewhat surprisingly become a free agent, he could be the perfect player for any club that could be in search of an experienced winger.
Below we list other PSL candidates who could also have been added to this list:
Edmilson Dove
Talent Chawapiwa
Jabulani Ncobeni
Jackson Mabokgwane
Wayne Arendse
Jose Ali Meza
Ryan Moon
Daniel Morgan
