Cleric tasks Muslims on alms giving

The Chief Imam of the Uthman Bin Affan Mosque in Wuse, Abuja, Nigeria, has urged Muslims to pray for peace and unity in the country during the remaining 10 days of Ramadan.

Nigeria, according to Sheikh Huseyn Zakaria, deserves peace and unity, which may be accomplished through prayer and respecting Allah in all of our endeavors.

All glory be to Allah for another month of Ramadan, and we have been joyful from the beginning of the month, fasting and praying to seek Allah’s forgiveness and mercy.

Sheikh Zakaria urged Muslims to search for the “night of power” during the last ten days of Ramadan, which are extremely important.

“Just as the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, redoubled his efforts in prayer and other good works during the last ten days of Ramadan, we should emulate him and offer more charity, feed the less fortunate, and seek Allah’s forgiveness.”

Sheikh Zakaria further advised Muslims to pay Zakat al-fitrah on Eid al-Fitrah Day in order to reduce hunger among Muslims.

“Zakat al-fitrah is an obligatory kind of almsgiving for the less fortunate that every able Muslim is expected to do at the end of Ramadan.”

The goal of the Zakat al-fitrah is to allow needy people to enjoy Eid al-Fitr and avoid being hungry on that day.” Added the Sheikh.

“The amount of zakat al-fitrah is one sa’i, which is four double handfuls of grains, and it is the same for all Muslims regardless of age or money.”

“This type of charity becomes obligatory for able-bodied Muslims and is expected to be distributed on the last day of fasting.”

The Chief Imam also urged Muslims all around the world, particularly youths, to exercise extreme caution while enjoying the Eid.

“Most people squandered their rewards acquired during Ramadan just by disobeying Islamic teachings on how to celebrate Eid al-Fitrah festival by engaging in illicit acts in the name of joy.”

“No one has the authority to engage in alcohol consumption, adulteration, or the use of drugs or other substances.”

I wish all Muslims around the world a joyous Eid al-Fitrah celebration, and may Allah continue to lead and unite us, the Sheikh concluded.
