Chris Rock blames Will Smith’s smack for skipping 2023 Oscars

Chris Rock intimated that Will Smith’s Oscar slap may have traumatized him while explaining why he turned down an offer to host next year’s ceremony.

During his stand-up comedy performance in Phoenix, Arizona, the 57-year-old brought up the incident once more, according to aceshowbiz.com.

According to The Arizona Republic, the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member was approached to host the next Academy Awards, but he declined, comparing his return to the event to returning to a crime scene, as reported by aceshowbiz.

Rock apparently made allusion to the murder trial of O.J. Simpson, who was accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson but acquitted of the charges.

During the trial, it was contended that Nicole’s murder was precipitated by her leaving a pair of glasses at an Italian restaurant. Rock stated that asking Nicole to return to the restaurant would be like asking her to return to the award ceremony.

Following the incident, he claimed he received an opportunity to appear in a Super Bowl commercial, which he “profanely” declined.

While Rock has not formally addressed the incident, he did not avoid discussing it on his tour. Someone in the sold-out performance requested Rock to “speak about it” after he mentioned that a person could gain fame for being a victim.

In response to the inquiry, the “Grown Ups” star stated that Smith’s blow was painful.

“He is taller than I am,” he stated.

Nevada would not sanction a fight between myself and Will Smith.

Smith has apologized once more for slapping Rock during the March ceremony after Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s buzz cut.

In a video, the 53-year-old said he was “truly regretful” and claimed: “I’ve gone out to Chris, and the response I received was that he’s not ready to talk, but he’ll contact out when he is. Therefore, I shall say to Chris, “I apologize.” My conduct was unacceptable, and I’m available whenever you’re ready to speak.”

Smith also apologized to Rock’s mother and family, stating, “I just didn’t realize how many people were harmed in that time, so I apologize to Chris’s mother. I must apologize.”

Rock has not replied to Smith’s apologies in public.
