Chris Cuomo made an unexpected revelation about his 2024 vote during an interview with podcaster Patrick Bet-David.
Rather than voting for either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, Cuomo admitted he wrote in the name of his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
A Family Vote
When asked by Bet-David, Cuomo hesitated but ultimately confessed, “I probably shouldn’t tell you,” before admitting, “I voted for my brother. I wrote him in. I’ll show you the picture.”
Bet-David, visibly surprised, pressed him on the matter, prompting the NewsNation anchor to confirm his unconventional choice.
Andrew Cuomo’s Resignation and Controversy
It’s worth noting that Andrew Cuomo, who served as governor until his resignation in 2021 amid scandals, has faced significant public scrutiny.
Despite this, his brother Chris felt compelled to support him in the election, revealing his frustration with the available presidential candidates.
Criticism of Both Presidential Candidates
Explaining his decision, Chris Cuomo stated that neither major candidate, Harris nor Trump, lived up to what he felt was necessary for American leadership.
“America can do better than these two candidates,” he declared, adding, “I’m not a Trump fan and I’m not a Democrat.”
He expressed a belief that the country deserved leaders who represented a higher standard than what was on offer.
Trump’s MAGA Movement and His Perspective on American Politics
Cuomo also weighed in on the MAGA movement, acknowledging the genuine passion behind it, despite not supporting Trump.
“I think the movement behind Trump is very real, it’s been disrespected, and I think that’s problematic for America,” he said.
He criticized how both sides of the political spectrum have handled the movement and expressed that the choices for president simply didn’t reflect the leadership America deserved.
A Conversation With His Brother
When asked if Andrew Cuomo knew about his vote, Chris confirmed that his brother was aware, saying, “He just was like… yeah.”
Despite the family connection, Chris revealed that Andrew didn’t dwell on his brother’s vote choice and had other matters on his mind.
Shift Toward Center Politics
While Chris Cuomo was known for his liberal stance during his time at CNN, his views appear to have shifted since joining NewsNation.
He has become more centered in his approach, criticizing not just conservatives but also the Democrats, particularly in their treatment of Kamala Harris.
The Idolization of Kamala Harris
Cuomo took issue with what he saw as the sudden idolization of Harris by liberals, pointing out the hypocrisy of this shift.
“They didn’t even like her six months ago! Now, all of a sudden, she’s Black female Jesus the way Barack Obama was Black Jesus,” he remarked, comparing Harris unfavorably to the former president.
He argued that Obama had qualities Harris lacked, adding that “he was imbued with things that she is not.”
Harris’s Path to Nomination
Cuomo also discussed the controversial way in which Harris became the vice-presidential nominee, suggesting that her rise was less about merit and more about political convenience.
He noted that many people felt she didn’t earn the nomination the right way, especially since she didn’t win a primary.
The Fear of Criticizing Harris
Finally, Cuomo criticized liberals for their reluctance to criticize Harris out of fear it might hand the election to Trump.
He expressed that this fear was not a valid excuse for ignoring her flaws.
“I don’t buy that, and it’s not how you get to a better place,” he said, pointing out that while both candidates have negatives, Harris’s should not be overlooked.
A Call for Open-Mindedness
Cuomo concluded by calling out liberals for their tendency to dismiss half of the country as bigots.
“Maybe you’re not as right about everything as you think you are,” he suggested.
“Maybe you should be a little bit more open to the people that you disagree with. Maybe they’re not all racists.”
