On Saturday, July 23, a man in China was put to death for burning his ex-wife on fire as she was being livestreamed.

A court in the southwest Sichuan province executed Tang Lu.

Lhamo, his ex-wife, was a farmer in the Tibetan autonomous prefecture and a livestreamer on the well-liked Douyin app.

According to reports, Lu reportedly has a history of violently abusing Lhamo.

In June 2020, the couple got divorced. After that, Lhamo allegedly rejected Lu’s repeated attempts to remarry her.

What time did the incident occur?

Lhamo was livestreaming a video of herself in September 2020 when Lu appeared.

He then started dousing her in gasoline and lit her on fire. Lhamo succumbed to her wounds two weeks later.

Lu was taken into custody soon after the murder was live-streamed. In October 2021, he was subsequently given a death sentence.

He was let to see his family prior to the execution, according to CNN.

China’s gender disparity and violence against women

The discussion on gender inequity and violence against women in China has gained traction since Lhamo’s horrifying murder.

In-depth coverage of Lhamo’s murder and how China’s justice system frequently fails to protect victims of these crimes was provided by both local and international media.

China amended its marriage regulations in 2021. Abuse was not previously accepted as a valid reason for divorce.

In the meantime, it was earlier reported that a guy who killed his fiancée was given a 12 year direct prison sentence.

When Peter Pitso, 36, was condemned, the Pretoria High Court was seated at Palm Ridge.

Pitso’s deceased lover Mathapelo Mirriam Tsotetsi, who was tragically stabbed in the chest, experienced what happened, according to Lumka Mahanjana, spokeswoman for the Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Tsotetsi and her buddy went to a tavern in Sebokeng on February 2, 2021, in an effort to locate Pitso. Pitso allegedly offered Tsotetsi drink, but she declined.

After some time, Tsotetsi departed the tavern, and neither Pitso nor her buddy knew where she had gone.
