Charlotte Chilton, a former contestant on The Traitors, has shared the challenges she faces as a single mother to her 10-week-old daughter, Penelope.
The 32-year-old has been candid about the financial strain she’s under, especially as she balances being a new mom with running her own business.
Charlotte’s daughter, whom she says was fathered by singer Conor Maynard, was conceived after Charlotte suffered multiple miscarriages while trying for a baby with her ex-wife.
However, Conor has not been involved in Penelope’s life, and Charlotte claims he has ignored her since learning of the pregnancy.
Navigating Life with a Newborn
In a recent interview with MailOnline, Charlotte opened up about how difficult it has been to manage both motherhood and entrepreneurship.
She explained that the first year of running a business is tough, especially when you’re not drawing a salary.
“It’s very difficult to manage,” she said, juggling her newborn with her work responsibilities.
Despite the challenges, Charlotte makes sure her daughter has everything she needs, though she often sacrifices her own comforts to make it happen.
“Penelope has got nice clothes, we’re booked into baby massage, she’s learning to swim,” Charlotte shared, “but that’s because I put her first. I go without so she can have these things.”
She expressed frustration at not having the time or resources to be more present, wishing that someone else could help lighten her load so she could focus more on being a mom and less on working to make ends meet.
Family Support and the Strain of Parenthood
Charlotte, who recently moved back in with her parents to save money, acknowledged the overwhelming support from her family and friends.
“All my friends and family break their backs to offer us support,” she said, citing how they’ve helped with bills and childcare.
“Honestly, it’s been that tough,” she added, expressing gratitude for her parents and friends who help care for Penelope so she can attend client meetings.
Despite the support, Charlotte remains frustrated by Conor’s absence from their lives.
“She [Penelope] is not a dirty secret and I won’t be silenced,” Charlotte boldly stated earlier, revealing her disappointment in Conor’s lack of involvement.
Conor Maynard’s Silence and Charlotte’s Response
After a month of silence, Conor recently broke his social media hiatus to explain that he had been struggling with anxiety.
In his post, he sought advice from his followers about taking medication to manage his symptoms.
Charlotte, not holding back, responded by posting a photo of a box of sertraline, an antidepressant used to treat anxiety.
Speaking on the emotional toll of the situation, Charlotte revealed that the fallout with Conor has deeply affected her mental health. “It’s made me feel worthless,” she admitted.
“It took a lot to build myself back up.”
She also shared how Conor’s absence cost her financially, as she turned down projects and brand deals.
“I’m also paying for therapy – another added cost,” she said, adding that although the situation has been difficult, she is now focused on rebuilding her life.
Looking Forward: New Goals and Hopes
Charlotte is determined to use her experiences to help others.
She now wants to be an advocate for women who are unfairly treated and for children who are not receiving the love and care they deserve.
Reflecting on her time on The Traitors, Charlotte said that despite the drama surrounding her, she is grateful for Penelope, the “gorgeous” daughter she now has.
If Charlotte had won the show’s prize fund, she said she would have used the money to buy a house, book holidays, and take her family on a special trip.
She also mentioned treating her mom, who has been incredibly supportive, and even getting a large tattoo to commemorate her journey.
Though her life has taken unexpected turns, Charlotte is grateful for where she is now, stating, “I would definitely save because you don’t know what’s around the corner.”
