The Royal Albert Hall was buzzing with excitement as stars and fans alike gathered for the annual Royal Variety Performance.
This year, the event took on extra sparkle thanks to the dazzling appearance of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
William and Catherine, both 43, joined a lineup of celebrated performers, including Jessie J, Matt Lucas, and host Jason Manford, for a night celebrating talent and supporting a vital charity.
Catherine Stuns in Emerald Elegance
Arriving in style despite the chilly London weather, Catherine looked breathtaking in a floor-length green velvet gown.
Her look was completed with the iconic Greville chandelier earrings, a Cartier masterpiece once worn by the late Queen Elizabeth II, dating back to 1918–1929.
William looked equally sharp in a classic black tie ensemble, making it a rare and memorable “black tie” evening for the royal couple.
Fans braved the cold and sleet outside Kensington Palace to catch a glimpse of Catherine joining William, highlighting the public’s continued affection for the pair.
A Heartfelt Welcome on the Red Carpet
On the red carpet, the royals were warmly greeted by Colonel Jane Davis, Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Greater London, along with the Royal Albert Hall’s President and CEO, James Max, and James Ainscough.
Once inside, they were introduced to Giles Cooper OBE, chairman of the Royal Variety Charity, and executives from ITV, who produce the annual show.
Catherine, visibly moved, commented on the excitement of returning to the performance, and the couple shared warm moments with young twins, Emelie and Olivia Edwards, who presented a winter woodland-themed floral posy.
The princess knelt to chat with the girls, asking about their school day and playfully keeping a secret about Paddington the Musical, while William complimented the children’s infectious smiles.
Entertainment, Tradition, and Charity
The evening featured a star-studded lineup, including performances from Jessie J, Harry Moulding, and a 40th-anniversary celebration of Les Misérables.
Jason Manford hosted the event, and Paddington the Musical delighted the audience with a special performance.
State trumpeters marked the royal couple’s entrance into the Royal Box, prompting a standing ovation, while Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins performed the national anthem.
The Royal Variety Performance not only celebrates talent but also raises funds for the Royal Variety Charity, which supports entertainment professionals in need, including a new initiative addressing mental health issues—a cause close to William and Catherine’s hearts.
Special Moments and Paddington Surprises
After the show, the Prince and Princess will meet the performers backstage, including a whimsical encounter with Paddington, who will present them with a marmalade sandwich.
The beloved bear has become a symbol of remembrance for the late Queen Elizabeth II, especially after her Platinum Jubilee cameo alongside the character in 2022.
Fans often leave Paddington toys and marmalade sandwiches at royal residences as a tribute.
A Royal Tradition Continued
Senior members of the Royal Family take turns attending the glittering event, with King Charles having been present last year.
This marks William and Catherine’s sixth appearance together and Catherine’s first since recovering from cancer.
Their previous attendance in 2023 also saw them accompanied by Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.
For those who missed the live event, the Royal Variety Performance will be broadcast in December on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player, bringing the magic of the evening to audiences nationwide.
