Celebrating Safely and Responsibly
The city is calling on residents and visitors to enjoy the festivities responsibly, emphasizing safety for all.
JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, urged the public to cooperate with enforcement staff and prioritize the well-being of their families and neighbors.
“Our teams are working tirelessly to keep the celebrations safe,” Smith shared.
“Whether you’re celebrating with friends or family, especially with children, please take precautions and ensure everyone enjoys the night responsibly.”
Fireworks Safety Rules in Effect
Fireworks remain a focal point of safety efforts.
Residents are reminded to adhere to strict regulations:
- Fireworks may not be set off within 200 meters of hospitals, clinics, petrol stations, old-age homes, or animal welfare organizations.
- Explosives are prohibited inside buildings, on public streets, or in recreational areas without proper permissions.
“Every year, we receive numerous complaints about fireworks-related disturbances and injuries,” Smith noted.
“We urge parents to supervise their children and encourage everyone to minimize the trauma caused to pets and neighborhoods by these explosions.”
A Team Effort for a Memorable Night
City enforcement teams, along with external partners, are going the extra mile to ensure safety.
From managing crowd control to maintaining order at beaches and other hotspots, the collaboration aims to make this year’s celebration smooth and incident-free.
Smith expressed his gratitude to all involved: “Thank you to every department and partner working behind the scenes to ensure the festivities are safe for everyone.
Let’s work together to make this a New Year’s Eve to remember.”
