Capacity Building: University of Maiduguri seeks partnership with VON

The University of Maiduguri has solicited for partnership with Voice of Nigeria on capacity building
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Aliyu Shugaba who made this known during a courtesy visit to the Management of Voice of Nigeria, said, “The University has collaborated with other institutions in and outside the country as well as initiated four centres to manage insurgency situation in the North East, Nigeria and entire Sub-Saharan Africa.


Professor Aliyu revealed that the Centres for Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the University have made over 40 graduates to be self-employed and stand on their own.

He added that even at the peak of the insurgency the University resolved not to be close but to continue with its mandate of teaching-learning, research and community service.

“The University suffered as a result of the insurgency, but started picking up.


The Director-General, Voice of Nigeria, Mr Osita Okechukwu commended the University for the efforts.

He stressed that the study of the root cause of insurgency would surely assist in solving the ideological crises that brought about the insurgency.

The Executive Director News, Voice of Nigeria, Mr Ahazia Suleiman explained some of the initiatives by the cooperation and suggested to convene a conference for Countries along with the Lake Chad Region.

Prof Gambo stressed the need for VON to strengthen its presence in Maiduguri and Nigeria should lead in convening the meeting of professionals.

He commended Voice of Nigeria for the immense support and contributions to the University.
