Can Zulu Find Redemption in Eswatini? Veteran Defender Bets on New League for Career Upswing

Zulu Crosses Borders: Veteran Defender Seeks Rejuvenation in Eswatini

Seeking New Horizons:

After a string of short stints in his native South Africa, veteran left-back Pentjie Zulu has embarked on a fresh chapter in his career, signing for Eswatini club Mbabane Highlanders.

The 33-year-old had been unattached since leaving Moroka Swallows in June 2023.

Restless Journey:

Zulu’s recent years have been marked by a nomadic experience, playing for Sekhukhune United, Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila, and Swallows, spending less than two seasons at each.

This restlessness extends further back, with former spells at Blackburn Rovers, Jomo Cosmos, Bidvest Wits, Chippa United, Mthatha Bucks, and Highlanders (his previous South African iteration).

Eswatini Hope:

Hoping to reignite his career, Zulu has crossed borders to join Highlanders in Eswatini.

He inked a deal running until the end of the season, with the possibility of an extension to be discussed later.

Missed Swallow, Landed on High Ground:

Interestingly, Zulu had been training with Mbabane Swallows before a twist of fate landed him at their rivals, Highlanders.

He will now find himself alongside former Chippa United player Kwakhe Thwala, touted as a rising star in Eswatini.

Climbing the Table:

Zulu’s new challenge is to help Highlanders improve their position.

They currently sit sixth in the league after the first round, eight points behind leaders Green Mamba FC.

His debut could come against Moneni Pirates on Sunday at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

Beyond Zulu:

This move is not the only Eswatini transfer news making headlines.

A local star is reportedly on the brink of signing for South African club Black Leopards, showcasing the growing footballing ties between the two countries.
