The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has encouraged political parties to abandon plans for Christian/Christian or Muslim/Muslim presidential tickets in 2023. Samson Ayokunle, the Christian group’s president, stated this on Thursday, October 28 after a meeting between CAN’s leadership and Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, at the National Assembly.

Noting that the country is already tense due to insecurity, Ayokunle warned that politicians should avoid inflaming the polity with their statements as the election season approaches.

Ayokunle said;  “We urge that a balance of both religious practitioners be considered.
We don’t want Christian/Christian ticket nor Muslim/Muslim ticket” CAN’s President expressed disappointment with the economic downturn and its consequences on the people, and also called for quick actions and policies that will cushion the effect. Ayokunle added;  “Unemployment is at an unimaginable level.
While we appreciate the efforts of the legislature in calling the attention of the executive, more robust and daring efforts are required.“Enabling environment should be created for investments and incentives or tax exceptions given to local manufacturers on some goods
