Plateau Governor Sees Hope for Nigeria After Supreme Court Victory
In a Friday interview with Politics Today, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the Supreme Court’s decision upholding his election as a beacon of hope for Nigeria’s legal system.
The ruling overturned an appellate court verdict that had previously sacked him from office.
Court Verdict Brings “Positive Energy” for Nigerian Justice:
Mutfwang sees the Supreme Court’s decision as a validation of his faith in Nigeria’s legal system.
He believes it demonstrates the potential for proper, transparent justice when institutions function effectively.
This, he says, fuels his optimism for positive change across the country.
“It has brought out in me some positive energy that we can be able to change the Nigerian system,” Mutfwang stated.
“With what I saw in the Supreme Court, it raises that hope further.”
Calling for Action Against Terrorism:
The governor also used the interview platform to address the recent violence in Plateau state, condemning the killings and attacks as acts of pure terrorism.
He expressed frustration with the inaction against those responsible, urging security agencies to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, financiers, and weapon suppliers.
“I believe that the sponsors of the terrorists, the financiers of the terrorists and those who arm the terrorists are known,” Mutfwang declared.
“And the security agencies know them or they they have the capacity to know them.
And that is why we are insisting that the security agencies must do their work, which is to protect lives and properties.”
A Message of Hope and a Call for Action:
Governor Mutfwang’s interview reflects a mix of optimism and frustration.
He celebrates the Supreme Court’s decision as a sign of potential for a fairer legal system, while demanding decisive action against the perpetrators of violence in Plateau state.
His message emphasizes the importance of effective institutions and accountability in bringing about positive change in Nigeria.
