Burnley clears out fifteen players at Turf Moor after sealing Premier League return with record-breaking Championship campaign

After a spectacular season where Burnley amassed 100 points and secured an immediate return to the Premier League, the club is now shaking things up — and it’s a major clear-out.

Manager Scott Parker is moving decisively to reshape the squad, determined to avoid the relegation struggles of recent top-flight campaigns.

Experienced Players Let Go

Among those shown the door is a familiar name with plenty of Premier League pedigree.

Jonjo Shelvey, who has spent 12 seasons at the highest level and even played for England and Liverpool, has been released.

Despite signing from Turkish club Eyupspor in January, Shelvey barely featured, clocking just 11 minutes on the pitch over four months.

Nathan Redmond, another seasoned pro with nine Premier League seasons under his belt, has also been cut loose.

At 31, Redmond only made three appearances all season, showing just how ruthless the sport can be when it comes to squad decisions.

Together, Shelvey and Redmond have racked up an impressive 554 Premier League appearances, but Burnley have decided to take a different route.

Both players will officially depart on June 30.

Contract Talks and Academy Departures

Burnley also face uncertainty around a few others like Josh Brownhill, CJ Egan-Riley, and Ashley Barnes, whose contracts are expiring soon.

Talks are ongoing about their futures with the club.

It’s not just the senior squad seeing turnover — Burnley have also released 13 academy players.

This group includes Joao Mendes, son of Brazilian legend Ronaldinho.

The 20-year-old winger joined from Barcelona last summer but hasn’t quite made the breakthrough fans might have hoped for.

Other under-21 players leaving include Alex Healy-Byrne, Will Hugill, Lewis Richardson, Basilio Rieno Socoliche, Jon Ander Vilar Robinson, Ryan Tioffo, and Brandon Ly.

Additionally, five promising under-18 talents—Adam Abbas, Ben Jordison, Logan Carlin, Luca Jackson, and Frankie McMahon-Brown—have also been let go as Burnley trim their youth ranks.

Scott Parker’s Premier League Challenge

This marks Scott Parker’s third promotion to the Premier League as a manager, having previously led Fulham and Bournemouth to the top tier.

However, his past spells in the Premier League have been tough — he was relegated twice with Fulham (including a season he only took over mid-way) and lasted just four games with Bournemouth after promotion.

Still, Parker has proven his ability to build a strong, cohesive team.

His Burnley side conceded just 16 goals in their promotion campaign — an impressive defensive record that helped secure their return.

Celebrations and What Lies Ahead

Burnley’s promotion party featured a surprise guest: Natasha Bedingfield.

The pop star famous for her early 2000s hit “Unwritten” joined the club at Turf Moor, singing and dancing to celebrate their second-place finish in the Championship.

The song has become an unofficial anthem for the team this season.

Now, as Burnley prepare to test themselves again in the Premier League, the big question remains: what’s next for this freshly reshaped squad?
