Arsenal fans will have to wait a little longer before seeing Bukayo Saka back on the pitch.
The talented winger is expected to be out for another eight weeks as he continues his recovery from a serious hamstring injury.
Injury Timeline
The 23-year-old sustained the injury on December 21 during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Shortly after, he underwent surgery on December 29, and the expected recovery time was initially set between 10 to 12 weeks.
Thankfully, there haven’t been any major setbacks during his rehab, and reports suggest that Saka is still on track to return within that estimated time frame, with a possible return around mid-April.
When Could He Return?
With his surgery falling at the end of December, Saka could technically be back on the pitch by the end of March.
However, due to the severity of his hamstring tear, Arsenal’s management has not set a definitive date for his return just yet.
Arsenal’s Injury Crisis
This latest setback comes as part of a growing injury list for Mikel Arteta.
Along with Saka, the Gunners are also missing key players like Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Martinelli, all of whom are sidelined during a crucial period of the season.
The most recent blow for Arteta’s side came when Havertz picked up a hamstring injury during a mid-season training session in Dubai.
This is after Arsenal had already decided not to sign any reinforcements during the January transfer window.
More Injury Woes
Arsenal’s troubles worsened when Gabriel Jesus, who had already been ruled out for the season due to a serious injury suffered in the FA Cup against Manchester United, was joined on the sidelines by Martinelli.
Martinelli could miss up to a month following an injury during the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle.
Missed Opportunities in the Transfer Market
Saka and Jesus’ absences left Arsenal needing fresh attacking options, but their attempt to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa in January was rejected.
They also showed interest in Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, but the French forward chose a move to their North London rivals, Tottenham, on loan for the rest of the season.
With so many key players missing, Arteta’s tactical challenges are stacking up, and the Gunners will need to manage their squad carefully until their stars are back.
