Minister’s Suspension

President Bola Tinubu swiftly suspended Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, with immediate effect.

The decision was conveyed by Tinubu’s media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, citing the President’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability in Nigerian governance.

Financial Investigations

The suspension coincides with the President’s directive empowering the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to scrutinize all financial transactions linked to the Federal Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Humanitarian Affairs.

This move aims to thoroughly investigate potential irregularities and ensure transparency in government operations.

Directives and Compliance

The suspended minister has been instructed to transfer duties to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry and cooperate fully with the investigating authorities.

Additionally, a high-level panel, spearheaded by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, has been established to conduct a comprehensive review of social investment programs and institute reforms to enhance their effectiveness and eliminate institutional weaknesses.

Immediate Implementation

President Tinubu’s directives are to be immediately enforced, reflecting the urgency and significance of the investigation into financial matters related to the ministry.
