Just a few days after Ukraine launched a significant rocket bombardment on the outpost, Russia has declared it is abandoning Snake Island.

The 100-acre parcel of land is located in a favorable location, about 80 miles off the Black Sea coast of Ukraine.

Early in the conflict, Russia had taken control of the island and had generally maintained that authority despite sporadic attacks from the Ukrainian military.

However, Ukraine began a significant offensive last week, devastating a number of Russian supply points and anti-aircraft defenses with a punishing volley of rockets.

For Putin’s forces, the withdrawal constitutes a significant setback.

Andriy Yermak, the director of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, issued a happy statement after learning the news this morning.

‘KABOOM! There are no longer any Russian soldiers on Snake Island. Our Armed Forces did a fantastic job,’ tweeted Yermak.

The Russian defense ministry confirmed that its troops had left the important outpost but described the withdrawal as a “gesture of goodwill.”
