Breaking: Pune Airport’s Service Quality and Infrastructure Under Scrutiny

In a recent Parliamentary Budget session, concerns were raised regarding the declining quality of service and infrastructure at Pune International Airport. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) member Vandana Chavan highlighted the airport’s fall to the 70th position in the service quality survey conducted by the Airport Council International (ACI). She emphasized the need for immediate attention to address the failing standards at one of India’s busiest airports.

Declining Service Quality and Infrastructure

Pune airport’s performance in the ACI’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey was a key point of discussion. The ASQ survey evaluates airports on 31 specific parameters, including airport facilities, check-in, security checks, and passenger services. Despite being classified as one of the best airports by size, Pune airport’s poor ranking signifies a clear deficiency in basic amenities and overall service quality.

Indifferent Response to Passenger Concerns

Passenger complaints about inadequate facilities, problematic check-ins, and security checks were also brought to light during the discussion. Chavan voiced her concerns about the unopened new terminal building and the limited efforts made to enhance the existing facilities. The ongoing issues have led to questions about the government’s commitment to maintaining international standards in airports across the country.

State’s Assurance of Improvement

In response to the concerns raised, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation acknowledged the issues and assured that steps would be taken to improve the airport’s service quality and infrastructure. The government’s response underscores the recognition of the urgency to upgrade Pune International Airport to meet international standards and cater to the growing number of passengers.
