Boris Johnson’s farewell address as PM will unify Tories behind his successor

In his farewell address as prime minister, Boris Johnson will caution his party against stabbing leaders in the back and running the danger of giving Labour the keys to No. 10.

He will argue that Tories must band together behind the future Prime Minister, most likely Liz Truss, in a barely disguised jab at his backbenchers.

On Tuesday morning, he will give a speech in front of No. 10 before going to Balmoral to see the Queen and announce his resignation as prime minister.

An ally said last night: “He will declare the next leader must get unanimous support from everyone; else, not just the next PM would be gone, but all of us.”

The internal strife we have experienced over the last several months cannot continue.

Three years after Theresa May was forced to resign as a result of Tory squabbling, he was ousted in July after a wave of Cabinet resignations.

The party must stop its vicious “blue-on-blue” assaults, the Tories warn, or the incoming PM will “not survive till Christmas,” according to The Sun on Sunday.
