It was a convergence of Who is Who in the media industry in Nigeria as the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) performed the induction and swearing-in of its new leadership.
They were charged on the need to lead the crusade for Broadcast Media Practitioners to constantly exhibit professionalism and observe the ethics of the profession in their day to day dealings.
Among those who charged BON members to up the ante of professionalism is the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina who lamented the fact that often times, what comes out of the radio as broadcast to the public are nothing to write home about, hence the need for sanity.
Also, speaking, another Senior member of the Fourth Estate of the realm Mr Nduka Obaigbena who is the Chairman of Arise TV said the issue of professionalism is more gernain at this time of momentous change in the nation’s political history as no one can predict who will be the next President.
The Kano State Governor, Dr. Umaru Ganduje who witnessed the election commended the process and told the new leadership of BON that they have a vital role to play in the management of all public communications in the interest of peace and societal orderliness.
The Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, (NBC )Mr. Balarabe ilela is hopeful that the relationship between the regulator and the practitioners will continue to wax stronger.
Also giving charge is the Executive Secretary of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, Dr.Yemisi Bamgbose.
The Fourteen Chairman of BON ,Mr John Ugbe who is the first Chairman from the Cable and Pay TV sectoral group in a remark promised to source for training opportunities to deepen the competence and Technical knowledge of its members.
