BBNaija’s Mercy Eke on how she felt when people ridiculed her with the “That’s not how we roll in this Lagos” meme.

How I felt when people trolled me with Thats not

Mercy Lambo was ecstatic that people were criticizing her statements, since as the meme grew in popularity, so did the ratings for the show “Mercy, What Next,” from which the clip was drawn.

Season 4 of Big Brother Naija Mercy Chinenyenwa Eke, a Pepper Dem reality TV star and winner, has voiced her feelings after her statements, “That’s not how we roll in our Lagos,” from her famous show, “Mercy, What Next,” became a viral meme and target of criticism.

People formed a meme with those magical words, according to the Imo State resident, and it provided her show powerful ratings that no one knew about.

Mercy expressed her delight at how the meme turned out to be a blessing in disguise for her and her show.

The reality TV actress went on to say that she’s well aware that in Nigeria, only bad things can make someone trend, so she took advantage of the opportunity to capitalize on the “That’s not how we roll in this Lagos” meme.

Mercy revealed this during a recent one-on-one interview with Temisan Emmanuel, a Nigerian podcaster, on the Tea With Tay podcast.

“I really want to get to this point in my life where I just do me because that’s what you do, literally, and you’re not so worried about…” Temisan said to Mercy. There have been a number of memes about you, like the one where you said, uh uh, what’s that popular meme, ‘that’s not how we roll in this Lagos,’ and so on.

“How did you feel about that meme when it first came out, because you rode on it right away, like, you even posted it, you did a challenge?”

Mercy Eke emphasized in her response, “Yes, since I was selling my program.” Honey, I’m on the premium channel on DStv. I was advertising my show at the time. As a result, I was in desperate need of that.

“And you know, in this country, the only thing that sells whatever you’re selling is the negative.” Nobody is going to repost it, nobody is going to talk about it if I go out and feed a million people. However, when I do one simple thing, the rating of my show rises. I’m not sure what else I could ask for. It’s sometimes a blessing in disguise, but they don’t realize it.”
