Bayelsa APC Members Led by Governor Douye Diri Endorse President Bola Tinubu’s Re-election Bid for 2027 in Yenagoa

The political landscape in Bayelsa State took a decisive turn on Tuesday as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially threw their support behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.

The endorsement came during a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting hosted by Governor Douye Diri at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.

Governor Diri Leads Party Stakeholders

Governor Diri, now the recognized leader of Bayelsa APC since October 2025, convened the meeting to unite party members under a common vision.

The motion for supporting Tinubu’s re-election was initiated by Senator Konbowei Benson of Bayelsa Central and seconded by former Deputy Governor and ex-Speaker Peremobowei Ebebi.

Key figures in attendance included APC caretaker chairman Dennis Otiotio, Senator Benson Agadaga representing Bayelsa East, and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri.

Others included Sam Ogbuku, Managing Director of NDDC, Ebitimi Amgbare of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, and Godbless Diriware, an ex-officio member of the APC National Working Committee.

Emphasis on Unity and Party Values

Speaking to the gathering, Diri highlighted the need for forgiveness, humility, and unity within the party.

He encouraged members to set aside personal ambitions and reject bitterness or divisive politics, emphasizing that the party’s top priority is to secure President Tinubu’s second term.

“Today, we are gathered as one big APC family.

“Let us truly be progressives and honour our longstanding members. Whatever position you aim to contest for, hold it in abeyance for now.

“Our collective focus is ensuring President Tinubu’s victory,” Diri said.

Aspirants Urged to Prioritize Party Interests

The governor reminded aspirants to pause individual political goals, underscoring the importance of consultation and adherence to party rules ahead of the 2027 elections.

He framed this approach as a step toward fostering internal harmony and strengthening Bayelsa APC’s prospects at both state and national levels.

Party Leaders Praise Inclusive Leadership

Minister Heineken Lokpobiri expressed confidence that the Bayelsa APC is now unified and ready to compete effectively for all elective positions in the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, figures such as Speaker Abraham Ingobere, former governorship candidate David Lyon, and Prince Ebitimi Amgbare lauded Governor Diri’s inclusive and mature leadership style, noting that it would bolster party unity and electoral success.

Caretaker chairman Dennis Otiotio also commended Diri for consolidating previously fragmented party structures.

He highlighted that the meeting was also intended to mobilize members for the APC’s electronic registration exercise to ensure accurate voter capture.

Looking Ahead

With the Bayelsa APC now presenting a united front and a clear strategy in place, all eyes are on the party’s next steps as they prepare for the 2027 elections, starting with effective grassroots mobilization and adherence to party rules.
