Battle for political supremacy in Western Kenya takes shape

The fight for political domination in Western Kenya is set to intensify on Monday, when Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula host Deputy President William Ruto in Busia to promote their new party.
The three will also disseminate the message that only by empowering small businesses, which support millions of households, can we achieve long-term economic progress.
Wycliffe Oparanya, the Governor of Kakamega and the Deputy Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), is due to host a consultation meeting for all ODM hopefuls for various seats in the five Western counties of Vihiga, Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia.
Oparanya’s meeting is expected to set the pace for party primaries which they are expected to hold jointly with new entrant Democratic Action Party of Kenya.
The second term governor has been positioning himself as the region’s topmost political leader and appears to be stamping his authority on the region which has for years been accused of lacking a kingpin.
