Bandits ambush police team in Zamfara, kill 7

On Monday, November 8, at least seven police officers were slain in an ambush by bandits at Zonai village in Magami area of Zamfara State’s Gusau Local Government Area.

The officers were reportedly returning from duty near Zonai village on the Gusau-Magami-Dansadau road when an armed gang opened fire on the vehicle transporting them.

“It is a really sad occurrence especially for us in Magami town because the policemen had substantially aided in stabilizing the horrible security situation in our axis,” a resident simply identified as Halliru told Daily Trust.

“In fact, their presence at that checkpoint had boosted the confidence of the travellers to ply that road. Dozens of travellers have been killed or kidnapped along the 50 km Gusau-Magami road.
It is really sad and tragic.” Public Relations Officer of Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Awwal Usman Ruwandoruwa told the publication that the remains of the slain officers were brought to the hospital around 8am on Tuesday November 9.
