Bafana Bafana lost 2-0 to Angola in a match for the African Nations Championship on Sunday at the Estadio de 11 Novembro in Luanda.

The contest was the opening leg of a second-round qualifying match. The return leg will take place at Orlando Stadium on September 4.

Augusto Carneiro’s deft header in the 13th minute gave the hosts the lead after he outjumped two Bafana defenders to connect with a header. His attempt went wide of Bafana goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse, who was named captain for the match.

In the 68th minute of the second half, Angola doubled their lead with a goal by Jaredi Teixeira.

The winner of this round will qualify for next year’s Chan tournament, which will be held in Algeria.
