The move has sparked a mix of outrage, support, and humor, with many questioning the implications of the decision. One of the most vocal critics is celebrity doctor Musa Mthombeni, who took to social media to call out those claiming to be “oppressed” in South Africa. Meanwhile, AfriForum, a non-governmental organization advocating for Afrikaner rights, has rejected Trump’s offer outright. Musa Mthombeni’s Bold Response Shortly after Trump’s announcement, Mthombeni shared his thoughts in a series of fiery tweets. He challenged white South Africans who feel mistreated to take up the offer and see how life in the U.S. compares. “If you think you’re ‘suffering’ and are ‘oppressed’ here, please pack your bags and relocate to the U.S. and see what real suffering is,” he tweeted. He added: “Americans with jobs are homeless. Read that again! Literal cost of living crisis in America. Good luck, and see you back here soon.” In another post, he sarcastically questioned whether wealthy Afrikaner landowners would truly be willing to abandon their vast farms to become refugees abroad. “I don’t see Mnr SbanBani leaving his 500-hectare farm to be a refugee in the U.S. The lies and disinformation have caught up with them,” he remarked. More Voices Join the Conversation Entertainment reporter Phil Mphela echoed Mthombeni’s sentiments, pointing out the irony of leaving a country where white South Africans still enjoy economic privilege. “Imagine leaving a country where you are part of the privileged by virtue of just existing and your hue. Imagine relocating to a country where you will have to work four jobs just to pay the bills and won’t even afford healthcare. Good LUCK!” he tweeted. On the other hand, musician Bouwer Bosch took a more humorous approach, posting a lighthearted skit mocking the idea of Afrikaners fleeing to the U.S. Trump’s Controversial Executive Order The former U.S. president’s executive order, signed on February 7, not only allows Afrikaners to apply for asylum but also halts all U.S. aid to South Africa. The order claims to prioritize the resettlement of white South Africans facing “government-sponsored race-based discrimination.” Trump directed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to focus on admitting Afrikaners through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. The move has drawn global attention, with critics accusing Trump of using race-based policies to interfere in South African affairs.
